Hobbes argued that the use of a monarchical government was the only way to tame the animal nature of humans. Rousseau advocated for absolute freedom and argued that selfish motives led to the societal ills. Because of this fear, no one is really free, but, since even the “weakest” could kill the “strongest” men ARE equal. The three philosophers, Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau were three key thinkers of political philosophy. The three men helped develop the social contract theory into what it is in this modern day and age. Rousseau, Locke and Hobbes provided strong arguments about the society that existed before formation of government.
