St. Ecgwine is generally considered to have reposed on 30th December, 717, though at least one scholar claimed it was 720. An English noble who became the bishop of Worcester, England, in 692. Charged with being overly strict by his clergy, Egwin went to Rome. Upon his return to England, he founded Eversham Monastery with the aid of the kingdom of Mercia. A vision of Mary prompted this founding. In 709, Egwin returned 2020-12-29 Byrhtferth of Ramsey : the lives of St Oswald and St Ecgwine / edited and translated by Michael Lapidge.
